The City of St. Albert Recreation and Parks department offers a number of high-quality programs to residents of our community, and we are currently recruiting for Instructors to deliver Learn to Skate programs.

The Opportunity

As a Learn to Skate Instructor you will deliver both parented and unparented recreational skating programs to children aged 3 to 8 years. The program consists of 4 progressive levels of skating skills and activities over 10 weeks. Instructors will be required to prepare and implement age-appropriate lesson plans in a fun and engaging environment, including evaluation. Instructors will need to be comfortable with this age group, as well as communicating with the participant’s parents.

Specific Instructor duties include program planning, greeting and supervision of participants, instruction of skill development, and preparation and cleanup of assigned spaces.

Qualifications

• Confident skating skills
• Experience (preferably at least 2 years) planning and delivering recreation skating programs
• Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years of age
• Ideal candidates will hold National Coaching Certification in figure skating, hockey or as a skating instructor.
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C with AED certifications are required.

Hours of Work

Shifts available from October 19 to December 21, 2024 with the possibility of extension.

Saturdays from 10:00 – 2:00 pm
(Indoors at Jarome Iginla Arena)

Compensation

Starting at $20.81 per hour for Instructor

Conditions of Employment

  • The successful applicant will be required to obtain/maintain a satisfactory vulnerable sector police information check.
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of educational and professional credentials.
