Job Details The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Communications & Public Affairs department as a Communications Advisor. Reporting to the Communications Supervisor, this position will be responsible for supporting the communications needs of the corporation and individual City of St. Albert departments. Responsibilities Communications Planning: working collaboratively with the leadership and program staff in the partner department to develop strategic and tactical integrated marketing-communications plans, campaigns and collateral material. Key Messaging: working collaboratively with the leadership and program staff in the partner department, and staff in Public Affairs, to develop messaging to help manage issues that have the potential to impact the City’s reputation. Media Relations: working collaboratively with the leadership and program staff in the partner department to develop responses to media inquiries and support spokespersons and subject matter experts. Collaboration: working collaboratively with the leadership and program staff in the partner department to gain an understanding of department business partners’ overall business goals, marketing objectives and target audiences to support informed decision-making on the best marcom approachesThe role requires an experienced communications generalist, and a creative and collaborative team player. The ability to balance competing priorities, a high volume of work and complex assignments is essential. Qualifications Bachelors Degree in Communications, Marketing, Commerce/Business, Social Sciences, or Journalism with 5 years of related experience or a 2-year post secondary Diploma in Public Relations, Advertising, Communications, Journalism, or Business with 7 years of related experience. Ability to develop strategic marketing/communications plans, undertake media relations, support issues management, and communicate during a crisis. In-depth knowledge of communications planning and issues management techniques, project management, and the change management theory. Demonstrated high-level verbal and written communication, presentation, liaison and negotiation skills. Incident Command System Training (ICS) is considered an asset. The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) APR designation and/or the International Association of Business Communications (IABC) CMP designation is desirable but not required. Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered. Hours of Work We offer a compressed bi-weekly work schedule of 72 hours, Monday Friday, 8:00 – 5:00, with a biweekly regular day off (RDO).There is a requirement to work occasional evenings and weekends. You will receive a Flexible Spending Account limit at the beginning of each calendar year (permanent full time – $350). Employees can purchase an annual Recreation Access Pass for $87 + tax, granting unlimited access to Servus Credit Union Place (excluding PLAYcare and registered programs), Fountain Park Recreation Centre, and Grosvenor Outdoor Pool. Conditions of Employment The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of educational and professional credentials.
