The Opportunity The City of St. Albert’s Community Services Department promotes the development of arts and cultural services throughout the community. The team connects to the community through the programming and operation of the Arden Theatre, the International Children’s Festival and St. Albert Children’s Theatre. As the Drama Intern, you will provide support and assistance to our team of instructors that offer musical theatre programs and camps to youth aged 3 – 19 years. These programs and camps are offered by the Performing Arts branch of the City of St. Albert’s Community Services department. There is a week of planning followed by five weeks of drama camps.Responsibilities may include assisting instructors by helping children learn music, choreography, running improv games and any other tasks the Lead Instructor assigns. Active participation in the day-to-day operations of the camps is vital. You will also be involved in supporting some final reporting at the end of the camps. Some light administrative duties may be included.Other tasks and responsibilities may include:• Supporting the setup and breakdown of equipment, including cameras, computers, monitors, sound systems, and pianos.• Assisting with arranging and clearing chairs between classes.• Helping with student sign-in.• Providing support for classroom demonstrations as needed.• Serving as a liaison between instructors and administration.• Assisting with class planning, delivery, and weekly reporting.• Supporting administrative tasks such as data entry. Qualifications • The individuals we are looking for should ideally have extensive experience in the performing arts genre. • Experience working with youth is a definite asset. • The interns we seek are team players with high levels of interpersonal and communication skill. Further to the requirements listed above:• Preference will be given to students pursuing post secondary education in Musical Theatre, Acting, Music or Education.• We seek applicants with some of the following: dance experience, experience working with youth of all ages, and significant experience in Musical Theatre. Hours of Work • 6 - 12 hours per week (mostly evening and weekends April-June and September to December)• 15 – 30+ hours per week (mostly daytime in July-August) Compensation $17.47 – 21.27 per hour based on qualifications and experience.
