Qualifications Minimum Qualifications (as of application date)• Registered Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) or Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) If you are a paramedic outside of Alberta, visit the Alberta College of Paramedics to learn about how to register in Alberta. It may only take a few months to complete. Out-of-province applicants pursuing a labour mobility application must be fully registered with the Alberta College of Paramedics by the date of the panel interviews (approximately mid-November 2024)Additional Requirements•Valid Alberta Class 4 Driver’s Licence: You must provide a driver’s abstract demonstrating safe driving behaviour (six demerits or fewer) upon offer. •Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check: Must be successfully obtained and maintained upon offer of employment. •Physical and Medical Standards Compliance: Ability to meet physical and medical standards, including vision and hearing, as per NFPA guidelines. Please refer to NFPA 1582, Chapter 6 – Medical Evaluations of Candidates, for details on disqualifying medical conditions. •Preferred Qualification: Preference may be given to applicants with NFPA 1001 Level I and II certifications. Application Information Recruitment Process and TimelineApplication period (August 16 – September 8, 2024) Station Assessment Includes Firefighter Aptitude, Medical Knowledge, OSCE and Job Skills Assessments (October 2 or October 4, 2024) Firefighter Physical Fitness Test conducted by the University of Alberta. This test is a pass-fail test where the candidate will go through a treadmill test followed by 6 stations that simulate tasks that firefighters are required to perform on the job. Candidates must register for an open testing session. Successful completion of this test, achieved between February 16, 2024, and November 5, 2024, is required.
