The Opportunity The City of St. Albert is currently recruiting for three (3) casual Emergency Communications Operators. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide casual shift relief in the OCC at the St. Albert RCMP detachment. Main responsibilities include complaint taking, dispatching, and answering emergency calls. Emergency Communication Operators utilize detachment radio equipment, perform CPIC entries, prepare court documents and create/dispatch Municipal Enforcement files in addition to maintenance and retrieval tasks for various RCMP computer systems. Qualifications • Completion of Grade 12 together with prior policing or dispatching experience and strong computer skills is necessary.• At least one (1) year of call-taking/dispatching experience is preferred.• Certification from an Emergency Communications Program is considered an asset.• Experience with RCMP computer programs and familiarity with the RCMP environment is a definite asset.• The ability to deal with people in a polite, courteous and informed manner is essential. The ability to stay calm in a variety of high stress, demanding situations is required, as well as prioritizing and multi-tasking.• Must be able to obtain (and maintain) a RCMP issued Security Clearance. Hours of Work We offer a variety of shifts ranging from 3 to 12 hours in length.The 12-hour shifts are 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. Note: Shifts may be altered to meet operational needs. Compensation Starting at $33.83 per hour.This position is represented by the CUPE 5141 Collective Agreement. Conditions of Employment The successful applicant must be able to obtain (and maintain) a RCMP issued Security Clearance.The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of educational and professional credentials.
