The Opportunity: The City of St. Albert has opportunities for new Lifeguard staff to join our Aquatic Services team. We are looking for friendly and energetic team players who are committed to ongoing training and development at Fountain Park Recreation Centre, Landrex Water Play Centre and Grosvenor Outdoor Pool. As a Lifeguard 1 you will ensure the safety and supervision of patrons at Fountain Park Recreation Centre, Landrex Water Play Centre and Grosvenor Outdoor Pool. Your duties include:• monitoring activities of the swimming pools while emphasizing the prevention of accidents and injuries; • maintaining order, ensuring proper conduct of persons using the facilities, reacting to emergency situations and performing first aid and emergency aid when required;• maintaining a safe and clean environment by completing daily operations checks, cleaning the pool and locker room areas and performing basic mechanical and operational tasks and tests. Qualifications: We are seeking individuals with the following qualifications and experience. Any additional aquatic experience & training is certainly an asset.• Applicants will hold a National Lifeguard award combined with Aquatic Emergency Care (AEC) or equivalent Standard First Aid, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Oxygen Administration. • Lifeguards must be able to communicate effectively. Strong verbal communication and listening skills are required.• Public relations and customer service responsibilities are key aspects of this role. The ability to be firm and tactful when educating patrons on policies and procedures and to respond calmly to emergencies is essential. Hours of Work: The number of hours worked per week fluctuates on an as-needed basis due to operational requirements and may be scheduled in advance where possible. Staff are required to work a minimum of 15 hours per week within their designation availability. The weekly hour requirement may fluctuate between the various schedule-sessions. Casual Lifeguard shifts are a minimum of 3 hours and up to 8 hours.Specifically, we seek individuals who are available to work the following days and times:• Daytime (Monday - Friday 4:45 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.)• Weeknight (Monday-Friday 4:00 p.m. - 10:45 p.m.) and weekend (Saturday-Sunday 5:15 a.m. – 9:45 p.m.)Please note: facility placement will be determined upon hiring.
