The Opportunity: The City of St. Albert is currently recruiting a Landscape Technician to temporarily join the Engineering Services Department.Reporting to the Engineering Development Supervisor, the Landscape Technician is responsible for enhancing the environment through the development and maintenance of public and commercial landscape by ensuring that Developers abide by the municipal landscape guidelines to implement quality and principle in the urban environment.This position will supervise construction to ensure they are in accordance with approved plans and compliance with municipal specifications, development agreement and the land use by-law. Incumbent will provide plan review, inspections, and letter of credit reduction in order to oversee all landscape improvement as per Development Agreement and Development Permit requirements.The Landscape Technician will coordinate the Dutch Elm Disease Prevention and Awareness Program in the City and act as the Pest Officer allowing for the enforcement of the Dutch Elm Disease Bylaw. This position will also provide technical support to various in-house departments and Public Works.The individual we seek has a strong understanding of land use by-laws, municipal landscape standards and regulations. This position requires knowledge of developments of technical drawings and specifications, cost estimate and contract document preparation, construction supervision and administration as well as knowledge in urban forestry, landscape design & arboriculture, and pest management. Qualifications: • Diploma in Horticulture, Landscape Design, Landscape Technician, Arboriculture, Landscape Gardener, etc.• Minimum 5 years landscape construction experience• Landscape Journeyman Certification; Construction Safety training; ISA Certified Arborist; or GIS ArcMAP Certification.• Membership of International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), Landscape Alberta Nursery Trades Association (LANTA), or Society to Prevent Dutch Elm Disease (STOPDED).• Proficiency using the Microsoft Office suite, PMS Systems, IIMA Systems, GIS Systems (ESRI and MapInfo), Oracle Databases, and/or Networking • Class 5 Driver’s license. Hours of Work: We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 with a regular day off every two weeks). Compensation: $2,646.62 bi-weekly.
