The Opportunity:

The City of St. Albert Recreation and Parks department offers a number of high-quality programs to residents of our community and we are currently accepting applications for Instructors to deliver both our indoor and outdoor Learn to Skate programs.

As a Learn to Skate Instructor, you will plan and deliver recreational skating programs to children aged 3 to 6 years. The program consists of 4 progressive levels of skating skills and activities. Instructors will be required to prepare and implement age-appropriate lesson plans in a fun and engaging environment, including evaluation. Instructors will need to be comfortable with this age group, as well as communicating with the participant’s parents.

Specific duties include: program planning, greeting and supervision of participants, instruction of programs, and preparation and clean up of your assigned space.

Qualifications:

• We seek applicants who have prior experience (preferably at least 2 years) planning and delivering recreation programs.
• Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
• Ideal candidates will hold National Coaching Certification in figure skating or hockey. Related post secondary education or previous experience as a Skating Instructor would also be an asset.
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR certifications are required.
• Confident skating skills are necessary.
• Experience working with preschoolers is beneficial and a passion for creating a fun environment and delivering excellent service is essential.

Hours of Work:

Shifts available from January 11 - March 19, 2022:

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 - 7:00 pm
(outdoors at Larose rink)

Saturdays from 10:00 – 2:00 pm
(indoors at Jarome Iginla Arena)

Compensation:

Starting at $19.50 per hour

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• To keep our employees, their families and the public safe and healthy, the City has decided to apply the Provincial Restriction Exemption Program standards with some modifications for employees. New employees joining the City must be fully vaccinated. Proof of vaccination provided by Alberta Health Services will be required prior to start. Exemptions may be considered but will need to be reviewed and validated before commencing work with the City of St. Albert. Those with approved exemptions will be required to submit negative test results twice a week before entering a City worksite.

• The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clear vulnerable sector police information check.
• The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of educational and professional credentials.
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification are required prior to starting.
