The Opportunity:

The Economic Development department is looking for a dynamic individual to support the Business Retention & Expansion portfolio, specifically supporting small business growth and sustainability by creating and assisting with projects designed to address the needs of existing businesses and tourism partners. Reporting to the Manager, Business Retention & Expansion, the Economic Development Officer will:
• Assist with the execution of strategies to support local businesses, downtown vibrancy and the tourism sector in alignment with the City’s Business Plan
• Assist with the development and promotion of education seminars/workshops that benefit local businesses
• Develop the annual tourism marketing plan and support its execution
• Responsible to administer and update tourism marketing materials
• Monitor and report on metrics tracking business retention and expansion initiatives
• Contribute to monthly Economic Development reports and newsletters for the local business community
• Participate in direct and indirect information gathering from existing businesses
• Contribute to leading or assisting with the organization and execution of department events
• Maintaining and updating content on the City of St. Albert’s website and social media accounts
• Manage and maintain important relationships with internal city administration stakeholders and external government and business stakeholders


• A degree or diploma in business administration, marketing or sales management combined with at least three (3) years of experience in marketing, tourism, sales, and/or customer relations management.
A suitable combination of related coursework and experience may be considered as equivalent.
• Certified Economic Developer (Ec.D.) designation or willingness to achieve the designation is preferred.
• Proficient user of the Microsoft Office Suite. A comfort with using Content Management Systems and/or Social Media account experience is desirable.
• A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and access to a personal vehicle for business use is required.

Hours of Work:

We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 with a regular day off [RDO] every two weeks).
Some meetings and work outside of regular office hours, and/or local travel in the evenings and weekends may be required.


$75,985 - $93,520 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a comprehensive benefit package including a defined benefit pension plan.
