The Opportunity The City of St. Albert is excited to provide students and new graduates with the opportunity to build meaningful career-related work experience, increase their skills, gain workplace insight and help prepare them for the future.The City of St. Albert requires two (2) Public Operations Events and Programs Assistants to assist with coordinating, communicating, monitoring and reporting on the City’s community waste & diversion and environment events and programs. The primary focus of this position will be to:• Assist Waste & Diversion staff with Curbside Waste Education Program including conducting visual waste audits and data tracking, quality assurance & analysis• Assist in responding to resident waste inquiries in person, over the phone and via email• Assist with environmental events and programs, including Neighborhood/School Clean Ups, Arbor Day, Clean and Green RiverFest, Naturalization and native and invasive species management and education• Assist with information booths, information sessions and presentations to residents, community groups, and schools such as farmer’s markets, food truck events or Canada Day• Other duties as they arise to support waste & diversion and environment events and programs Qualifications • Partial completion of a post-secondary program (minimum of 1 year) or a degree/diploma at a post-secondary institution in education, environment, or a related field.• Class 5 Drivers Licence is required.• Must be physically able to lift moderate loads up to 50 pounds (i.e. folding tables, tents) and walk up to 5km per day.• Environmental program and customer service experience are assets.• General understanding of waste & diversion at the City of St. Albert including what is accepted in curbside collection programs. • Experience with engaging and communicating with people.• Fully conversant in the use of Microsoft Office applications. • The individual must be personable and professional with strong organization, and time management skills. Hours of Work We offer a work schedule of 36 hours per week. The bulk of the hours will be on weekdays, but applicants must be able to work a flexible schedule as start and end times may change based on work requirements. Some evening or weekend work will be required. Compensation $21.01 – $25.09 per hour Term May – September 3, 2023 Conditions of Employment • The successful applicant will be required to obtain a satisfactory police information check.• The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of educational and professional credentials.• Valid Class 5 Drivers License and access to a personal vehicle for work use are required.• Must be physically able to lift moderate loads up to 50 pounds (i.e. folding tables, tents) and walk up to 5km per day.
