The Opportunity:

The City of St. Albert’s Human Resources & Safety department is seeking an experienced Compensation Technician to join our Team.

Reporting to the Compensation Specialist, the Compensation Technician is responsible for all aspects of payroll, including payroll input and processing, group benefits administration, pension administration, payroll maintenance and reconciliations. This position will work with two other Compensation Technicians and a Compensation Assistant in processing the compensation program for City employees.

The core responsibilities of the position include:
• Accurate and timely data input of timesheets, leave forms, pension and benefits to ensure on-time and accurate payroll processing.
• Provide predetermined response/information to employees regarding compensation entitlements based on relevant internal policies, legislation, and union contracts to help staff understand processes Facilitation of a variety of learning opportunities.
• Responsible for processing the pension and benefits program for city employees.
• Responsible to ensure all remittances are reconciled to the compensation system.
• Assists the Compensation Specialist, when requested, in various special projects that require excellent analytical skills.
Note: The City is in the process of transitioning to a new HRIS, thus the above duties may change post implementation.

The individual we are seeking is highly skilled in all aspects of payroll, is customer-focused, has a sound knowledge of HRIS, and is a strong team player. The role is well suited to someone who is analytical, with great attention to detail and strong numerical accuracy. The position requires discretion and confidentiality.

Qualifications:

• Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) and a minimum of five (5) years related work experience in the areas of payroll and benefit administration. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Knowledge of financial system programs, payroll system programs, and HRIS. (example: ViP)
• General knowledge of accounting principles and senior level knowledge of payroll.
• Ability to apply relevant legislative/policy/union directives to pay and benefits eligibility.
• Position requires very good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, diplomacy, empathy, as well as the ability to clearly communicate, both written and oral.

Hours of Work:

We offer a compressed schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 with a regular day off [RDO]).

Compensation:

$58,303 - $70,936 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a comprehensive benefit package including a defined benefit pension plan.
