The Opportunity:

The City of St. Albert has an opportunity available for an Arborist to join our Public Works & Transit department for an 18-month term assignment.

Under the general direction of the Team Lead – Trees, the Arborist administers, and participates in the management of the health and growth of the City of St. Albert urban forest including activities related to pruning, tree planting, removing, recording data and maintaining trees; implements preventative maintenance tree programs. This position assists the Team Lead - Trees in ensuring compliance with corporate and provincially legislated Occupational Health and Safety regulations, the City’s Environmental Management System and the City of St. Albert Urban Tree Management Policy.

The individual we seek has developed planning, writing and organizational skills. The ability to operate tree care equipment such as aerial lifts, chainsaws and pruning tools is required. Strong interpersonal, supervisory and leadership skills are desirable.


• Current International Society for Arboriculture Certified Arborist designation
• Grade 12 education
• Experience in all aspects of tree care and urban tree maintenance
• Class 5 Alberta Drivers license and ‘Q’ endorsement
• Current Standard First Aid Certification
• Job related computer-based experience including accuracy of tree inventory data

Hours of Work:

7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Participation in the standby roster will be required.


$32.21 per hour. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a comprehensive benefit package.

This is an 18-month term assignment from January 18, 2021 to July 8, 2022. This is a term position covering a leave, and the length of the term is subject to an early return of the incumbent on leave.
