The Opportunity:

The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Strategic Services and Communications department, Strategic Services branch this summer as a Corporate Planning Assistant. This position will support strategic and operational projects; documentation of processes and practices, assist in analyzing corporate datasets and conduct research into industry and competitive landscapes. In addition, the position will support department business planning.

The position will also be involved in preparing presentations and reports.

Qualifications:

We seek applicants who possess the following:

• Post-secondary studies in Business Management, Administration, Statistics, Humanities or a related field.
• Fully conversant in the use of Microsoft Office applications (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
• Preference may be given to applicants with previous municipal government experience.

This position is partially funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Grant; therefore, applicants must carefully review the program’s eligibility requirements. To be eligible, the youth must:

• be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*;
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
• have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.

**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.

Hours of Work:

We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 with a regular day off [RDO] every two weeks).

This position works a minimum of 30 hours per week.

Compensation:

Starting wage is $20.19 per hour. However, an offer will be made based on a candidate’s qualifications.

TERM:
Early May to September 2021
