The Opportunity

The City of St. Albert is recruiting a Utilities Engineer to join the Utilities branch of the Public Operations department. The Utilities branch manages our potable water distribution, wastewater collection and storm water management systems throughout St. Albert. Reporting to the Senior Utilities Engineer, the Utilities Engineer will conduct the analysis required to support development of short and long-term asset management and capital plans regarding repair, maintenance and rehabilitation requirements for the City of St. Albert’s underground and drainage infrastructure. This position prepares recommendations on necessary capital expansion and investment required to sustain the City’s infrastructure. Tasks for this position will include support and contract management for the Utility Master Plan and review of Green Utility initiatives. This position is responsible to administer multiple service contracts annually for collection of asset condition information and will assist with development of capital repair, maintain, and rehabilitation plans.

The Utilities Engineer will provide technical support to other City departments and be part of the project teams specific to Land Development and Utility Projects during the planning and design phases. They will be also be involved in project implementation on a required basis, which will involve concept planning, engineering design, selection and management of engineering consultants, and project management.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years related experience in water, sanitary and stormwater systems design and construction. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• APEGA Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or equivalent. Current EITs in the P.Eng. application process may be considered.
• Strong computer skills including MS Office, GIS, and Utility Simulation programs such as WaterCAD, Mike Urban, and/or PC SWMM modeling software are assets.
• Experience in land development, project management, administration of capital projects, and coordinating contractual and operational activities in the Water & Wastewater field.
• Extensive technical and financial experience and knowledge with the ability to compile, analyze, evaluate and interpret financial, statistical and engineering data in relation to the operation, construction, maintenance and administration of utility service systems.
• Knowledge/Experience in Asset Management is an asset.
• A valid Class 5 drivers licence is required.

Hours of Work

We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 with a regular day off [RDO] every two weeks).

Hybrid Remote Work – This position may be eligible to apply for Hybrid Remote Work at the completion of the probationary period. Hybrid Remote Work means the majority of worktime (51+%) will be completed in the designated workspace, and the remainder may be worked remotely. Applicants must reside in Alberta or be able to relocate to Alberta.

Compensation

$91,317 - $112,389 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a generous and comprehensive benefit package.
