The Opportunity

The City of St. Albert has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, dynamic and progressive individual who has a proven track record in a Fire Service or a related field. Reporting to the Director, Emergency Services (Fire Chief), the Deputy Chief, Planning and Logistics will be responsible for implementing Fire Services’ strategic plan by directing all procurement activities, developing innovative approaches to enhancing Fire Services’ capabilities, reviewing Standard Operating Procedures to address emerging needs, and lead the quality improvement process, amongst other duties.

The Deputy Chief is also a key leader within Fire Services and will encourage and foster a culture of innovation, engagement and respect. With a strong commitment to building relationships with key stakeholders, this role will promote a diversity of ideas and opinions while remaining focused on maintaining a safe and collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• An undergraduate degree in Business, Public Administration, or related field.
• A minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience.
• Ability to lead emergency services teams in a variety of situations and effectively managing processes.
• Alberta Fire Chiefs Association membership.
• Ability to facilitate procurement of emergency services equipment.
• Experience developing and maintaining positive working relationships with staff, union executive and colleagues that fosters effective problem-solving and innovation.
• Fire services experience, including leading in a Chief Officer role or experience within an emergency management environment will be considered an asset.
• Sound understanding of human resources principles.
• A thorough understanding of the emergency services function, with the ability to react effectively in high-stress and potentially life threatening situations.
• Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, fire department management software, and knowledge of mapping & GIS is required.
• A valid Class 5 Licence. A personal vehicle is required for use at work.

Hours of Work

We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 with a regular day off every two weeks). Please note that this position is required to work extended hours from time to time and outside standard business hours. This can result in the incumbent being flexible to take RDOs at certain times.

Compensation

$119,167.72 – $144,986.02 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a comprehensive benefit package.
